Located in western Fairfax County, the Town of Herndon is the third largest town in Virginia and is home to approximately 23,000 residents. A significant portion of the 20170 zip code includes homes with a Herndon mailing address that are located outside the town limits; the total population of 20170 is approximately 39,000. In addition, the 35,000 residents in the 20171 zip code (located mostly south of the Dulles Toll Road) have a Herndon mailing address; this area is also known as Oak Hill. Convenient to Dulles Airport and major commuter routes, the healthy balance of commercial, residential and recreational components has made Herndon/Oak Hill one of the largest technological crossroads in the country.
